Digital or traditional display on watches – what to choose?

Watches are some of the most popular accessories both for men and women, and they’re useful tools too. First, of course, they show the time, which is always important to know; moreover, some of them show cardinal directions, which are useful for travelers.

There exist many different designs of watches, but the displays usually come in two types – digital (electronic) and traditional (with hands). Which are better and why?

Digital display

Watches with digital displays are very easy to understand – the time is already written for you with precise numbers. Moreover, you can choose whether you want to see the time in 12- or 24-hour format.

This type of display is good for kids, for whom understanding time by the hands is confusing, and for people with visual impairment, who find it difficult to see small hands and even smaller numbers.

Traditional display

Traditional displays incorporate two (or sometimes three) hands on the watch face with 12 numbers (some of which could be replaced with dots or dashes) drawn in circle. This kind of time depiction is sometimes hard to understand because a) some of the numbers may be lacking, 2) you need to calculate the minutes on your own. However, traditional displays have much more sophisticated designs with more details.

That means that there are some differences in the purpose of use for these types of displays. People who prefer digital displays need watches mainly for their time-telling function, meanwhile, those who choose traditional displays wear watches mostly as a kind of accessory. Of course, it doesn’t mean that you can’t read time with traditional displays, nor does it mean that there are no beautiful designs for the watches with digital displays. And you can find watches with both of these displays here.
